Seawolves Outlast 'Jacks In Five-Set Thriller On Friday

ROHNERT PARK -- Caylie Seitz amassed for 25 kills and hit .404 and Kelsey Hull returned to the lineup to add 15 kills as the Sonoma State volleyball team held on for a five-set victory (25-13, 25-27, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9) over a tough Humboldt State squad on Friday night at The Wolves' Den.  The Seawolves rise to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA while the Lumberjacks fall to 4-3 (1-2 CCAA).

Sonoma cruised to a set one win, 25-13, hitting .343 and holding Humboldt to just .026.  However, the 'Jacks retaliated to force 15 ties and 10 lead changes, eventually holding on to knot the match at one set apiece with a 27-25 win.  In the third set, the Seawolves grabbed a 25-22 victory to take a 2-1 match lead, but again, the 'Jacks responded with a narrow 25-23 win in set number four to force the fifth and deciding set.  It was all Sonoma State from there, however, as the hosts led from start to finish and captured the five-set match win with a convincing 15-9 output.

Seitz led all players with the aforementioned 25 kills; she erred just four times in 52 attacks.  Hull smashed 15 attacks to the floor with five errors in 44 swings, a .227 clip.  Madelyn Densberger added in 12 kills and recorded a team-high 26 digs in the victory.

For Humboldt State, Ashley Owen led her squad with 14 kills, followed by Kaitlyn Dunaway with 13, and both Nicole Bewley and Symone Hayden with 11 each.  Libero Haley Biles had a match-high 30 digs in HSU's losing effort.

Sonoma State will face 7th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday night at 7:00 pm in The Wolves' Den.
