Seawolves Break School Record With 5th Straight Shutout Win

ROHNERT PARK -- Margi Osmundson scored twice and Allison Hadidian recorded her fourth shutout of the season, helping the Sonoma State women's soccer team to its fifth straight shutout to start the season (a new program record) in Sunday's 2-0 win over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay in non-conference action at the Seawolf Soccer Field.  The Seawolves improved to 5-0-0 and have outscored their opponents 13-0 during that span.  The Otters fall to 1-2-0.

After a scoreless first half that saw only five shots combined from either team -- and six offsides calls on SSU players alone -- the Seawolves stepped up the intensity on offense and it paid off when Osmundson and Sara Van Wagoner connected on the first goal of the day at 59:50.  After a corner kick on the right side that Osmundson tapped to Van Wagoner, Van Wagoner passed it back to Osmundson, who then chipped it up and over Otter goalkeeper Samantha Webb and into the left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Just under seven minutes later at 66:37, Osmundson took a pass from Jori Wider, and almost identical to her first goal, but on the left side of the field, Osmundson chipped it up and over Webb and into the right corner of the net for the 2-0 advantage.

Hadidian then stepped up big on two occasions late in the half to keep the shutout in tact, including a diving stop to her right by her fingertips.  She ended the day with three saves and has now shutout her opponents in her first 396 minutes of work between the posts this season.  Her counterpart, Webb, made one save -- SSU outshot CSUMB 7-6 in the match.

Sonoma State returns to the pitch on Friday when it hosts Academy of Art at 1:00 pm.
