Seawolves Wrap Up Perfect Non-Conference Slate With Win

BELMONT, Calif. -- After going into the halftime intermission tied at 1-1, the Sonoma State women's soccer team exploded for four goals in the second half to extend its win streak to seven games with a 5-1 victory over Notre Dame de Namur on Sunday in Belmont.  The Seawolves wrap up their non-conference schedule with a perfect 7-0-0 record while the Argonauts fall to 2-4-0.

Margi Osmundson got Sonoma on the board first when she took a pass from Melissa Lafranchi and went one-on-one with NDNU goalkeeper Abigail Cebrero, beating her to the net for the 1-0 lead just 9:15 into the match.

Nearly 20 minutes later, the Seawolves were whistled for a foul in their own box, setting up a penalty kick for the Argos.  Massiel Castellanos stepped up to the challenge and converted the attempt, ending SSU's shutout streak to start the season at 587 minutes, 34 seconds to knot the match at 1-1.

It wasn't until the 53rd minute that Sonoma State broke the tie when Alex Sifuentes stole the ball from an NDNU defender in the box and scored for the 2-1 lead.  Just over a minute later, the Argonauts tried clearing the ball from deep in their own side of the field, but the attempt found netting for an own goal to put the Seawolves up 3-1.

In the 72nd minute, Lauren Curtin scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, then Lafranchi put an exclamation point on the match with a goal in the 87th minute to give SSU the 5-1 win.

The Seawolves outshot the Argos 14-6, including 9-3 in the second half.  Allison Hadidian made two saves in the win before giving way to Ashley Luis in the 77th minute.  NDNU's Cebrero made seven stops.

Sonoma State will open up CCAA play on Friday when it hosts Cal State Monterey Bay at 1:30 pm.
