ROHNERT PARK -- Kelsey Hull,
Caylie Seitz and
Regan Richert combined for 41 of the team's 54 kills as the Sonoma State volleyball team enjoyed their most efficient night of offense this season, hitting .381 en route to a three-set sweep (25-17, 29-27, 25-13) of visiting Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den. The Seawolves rise to 6-4 this season with a 4-2 mark in the CCAA. The Broncos fall to 5-5 (3-4 CCAA).
Hull led all hitters with 15 kills, erring just twice in 31 attacks (.419) while Seitz smashed 14 kills with one error in 27 swings (.481). Richert followed with 12 kills and two miscues in her 35 attempts (.286). All told, the Seawolves had just six hitting errors in 126 attacks, bettering their .368 output against Saint Martin's back on Sept. 5 in Ellensburg, Wash. Four Sonoma defenders also recorded double-digit digs, led by the 15 of
Madelyn Densberger.
Kaitlyn Connolly and Hull each had 14 and
Courtney Seda tallied 10.
While the match featured 15 ties and nine lead changes, the match was never in doubt. The Seawolves did find themselves staving off set point by the Broncos in the second frame when a kill by Christen Williams put the visitors up 24-23, but both squads began to trade points. With the scored tied at 27-27, Hull took over and twice dented the hardwood on the other side of the net to give Sonoma State the 29-27 win and a 2-0 match lead. In the first and third sets, the Broncos would stay close with the Seawolves early on, but the hosts turned on the jets and cruised to 25-17 and 25-13 victories.
Deanna Blaine led Cal Poly Pomona with 13 kills; she was the only Bronco in double-figures for kills. CPP hit just .189 as a team, recording 39 kills and 15 errors in 127 swings.
Sonoma State will wrap up its five-match homestand with a Wednesday night battle with San Francisco State. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
