Volleyball Rebounds With Dominant Win Over Saint Martin's

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Fueled by the 13 kills and .619 hitting percentage off the hands of Caylie Seitz, the 16th-ranked Sonoma State volleyball team cruised to a three-set sweep over Saint Martin's (25-12, 25-11, 25-17) on Friday in the Hampton Inn Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash.  The Seawolves evened their record at 1-1 and will play twice on Saturday -- 2:30 pm against Hawaii Pacific and 7:00 pm against host Central Washington -- before opening CCAA play on the road next weekend.

It began with a back-and-forth affair, but Sonoma State went on an 11-point run to turn a 10-9 deficit into a 20-10 lead in a matter of minutes, eventually taking the first set with ease, 25-12.  Saint Martin's opened the second set by scoring the first three points, but the Seawolves found their groove once again, outscoring the Saints 25-8 the rest of the way for 25-11 win to take a 2-0 match lead.

In the third and final set, SSU continued its pressure on SMU, jumping out to a large lead, but a late rally by Saint Martin's put the Saints down by seven points at 24-17 before a Madelyn Densberger kill ended the match and secured Sonoma's first win of the 2014 campaign.

It was an all-around effort by the Seawolves on Friday as the team displayed a .368 hitting percentage with 40 kills and just eight errors on 87 total attacks.  Both Densberger and Ashley Robinson connected on eight kills each, and Robinson did so without an error in 15 swings (.533).  Sonoma also served up 10 aces, five of which came from Lauren Tom and three from Kaitlyn Connolly.  Connolly also recorded a match-high 13 digs.  The Seawolves made seven total blocks, Rachel Andrews rejected three of them.

The Seawolves held Saint Martin's to just .043 on offense and no Saints player recorded more than six kills on the night.
