ROHNERT PARK-- Despite a career-high 22 points for
Hannah Sourek, Sonoma State couldn't keep up with Cal State L.A. in a 78-66 defeat Friday night at the Wolves' Den. The Seawolves fell to 4-7 in CCAA play and 6-9 overall. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-5 in conference play and 7-8 overall.
In the first half, the Seawolves were able to open up a five-point lead with 10:03 left when
Tanner Adams hit one of her three triples on the night to make it 16-11. But the lead wouldn't get any larger than that for the Seawolves. The Golden Eagles took the lead at 20-18 with 6:45 left and were able to extend their lead to 35-27 by time the half ended. The second half saw the Seawolves fall behind 45-34 before they went on 14-0 capped off by a pair of Sourek free throws that put the Seawolves in front 48-45. That lead was short-lived as the Golden Eagles reeled off the next eight points to retake the lead, 53-48. The Golden Eagles would never relinquish the lead again.
Cal State L.A. shot 50.8% to Sonoma State's to 39%. The three-point category went the way of the Golden Eagles 47.1% to Sonoma State's 36.8%. The Seawolves were outrebounded, 22-18. Sonoma State's bench did a good job outscoring Cal State L.A. 32-23.
In addition to Sourek's career point's night, she led the team in rebounds with six.
JoNae Gonzalez and
Taylor Acosta had matching points and rebounds with eight points and four rebounds each.
Chiara Demarco led all Golden Eagle scorers with 21 points. Teammate Aiwekhoe Okungbowa had 13 points.
Sonoma State returns to action tomorrow at 5:30 P.M against Cal State Dominguez Hills University at the Wolves' Den.
