Cold Shooting Plagues Seawolves In Saturday Loss To Toros

ROHNERT PARK -- Molly Donovan and Hannah Sourek scored in double-figures, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team was held to just 20.8 percent shooting from the floor and misfired on all 10 attempts from three-point range in Saturday's 64-46 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Pink The Den Night in Rohnert Park.

The Seawolves have lost six straight games, falling to 6-10 overall and 4-8 in the CCAA while the second-place Toros improved to 15-5 (10-2 CCAA).

Cal State Dominguez Hills opened the game on a 15-0 run and eventually stretched its lead to as much as 20 points at 23-3 just eight minutes into the contest.  Sonoma State didn't record its first field goal until 8:21 remaining in the first half when Taylor Acosta hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 13 at 23-10 -- the first eight SSU points were scored from the free throw line.  The Seawolves would only get to within 11 points on several different occasions -- the last coming at the 12:40 mark of the second half -- but the Toros then went on a 22-7 run over the next eight minutes to put the game out of reach befire settling on the 18-point win.

The Seawolves were held to 11 field goals in 53 attempts, six coming in the first half and five in the second.  Donovan led the team with 12 points while Sourek added 11.  Emilee Osagiede dropped in eight points with a team-high 11 rebounds.

CSUDH senior Tayler Champion had a record-breaking night, going 9 for 17 (all from three-point range) to score a game-high 27 points and break the Toros' program record for most three-pointers in a game in the meantime.  Breanne Garcia added 12 points for the Toros in the victory.

Sonoma State will hit the road for another four games, starting with a Thursday night matchup at Humboldt State.  Tipoff from Lumberjack Arena is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
