Seawolves Suffer 73-67 Loss To Toros On Saturday Night

ROHNERT PARK -- Both James Davis and JJ Mina went for 18 points, but the Sonoma State men's basketball team suffered a 73-67 loss to visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.

The Seawolves (9-7, 6-6 CCAA) fall into a four-way tie for fifth place in the conference standings heading into the second half of the CCAA schedule, beginning on Thursday when they take on Humboldt State up in Arcata.  The Toros, meanwhile, recorded their first CCAA victory of the season, improving to 5-13 overall and 1-11 in league play.

It was a back-and-forth affair for the first 10 minutes of play, but visiting CSU Dominguez Hills eventually turned a 14-12 deficit into a 37-26 lead at the half, a lead the Toros would never relinquish.  Sonoma would get as close as five points late in the second half, but CSUDH hit 13 of its final 16 free throws in the last three minutes of the contest to secure the six-point win in front of 1,198 Seawolf fans in attendance for Pink The Den Night.

In the end, Sonoma State was held to 39.6 percent shooting on 19 of 48 from the floor -- just 7 of 19 (36.8 percent) from long range.  Cal State Dominguez Hills connected on half of its shots (24 for 48) and, on defense, forced 14 turnovers, 12 by way of a steal.  The Toros also outrebounded the Seawolves, 31-26.

Four CSUDH players scored in double-figures, including three players off the bench led by Shaq Hunter, who led all scorers with 22 points.  Emmett Duvall (15), Brandon Woods (12) and Justin Sadler (10) also netted 10 or more points.
