ARCATA, Calif. -- Sonoma State's weekend slate of road games got off to a tough start as it couldn't keep pace with 25th-ranked Humboldt State in an 88-62 loss Thursday night at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata. The Seawolves have lost seven straight, falling to 4-9 in the CCAA and 6-11 overall. The Lumberjacks improve to 12-1 in conference play and 16-2 overall.
The first half saw the Seawolves fall behind 35-19 with 9:25 left, but battled back and went on an 8-2 run to narrow the Lumberjack lead to 10. Once the lead was reduced to 10, the Lumberjacks thwarted the Seawolves momentum and were able rebuild their lead to 16 and expanded on it to go into the locker room up 50-33. The second half saw the Seawolves unable to threaten the Lumberjacks halftime advantage and they left Arcata on the losing end.
Sonoma State dominated on the boards, taking the category 39-24. The Lumberjacks were able to convert 19 Seawolf turnovers into 24 points, while the Seawolves could only convert 15 Lumberjack turnovers into 13 points. Humboldt State shot 48% (36-75) to Sonoma State's 37.7% (23-61).
Hannah Sourek and
Emilee Osagiede each had 12 points to lead the Seawolves. The 12 points by Osagiede was a season-high. Osagiede also had eight rebounds to tie her with
JoNae Gonzalez for the team-lead in that category.
Molly Donovan had eight points and five rebounds, while teammate,
Jessica Mitz, had seven points and six rebounds.
Humboldt State's Jae Shin led all-scorers with 24 points. Teammate A'Jaee Foster had 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Sonoma State next travels south to the campus of Cal State San Bernardino for a 5:30 pm tipoff on Saturday.
