ROHNERT PARK -- Tanner Adams sunk two free throws with 10 seconds left in regulation to clinch the Sonoma State women's basketball team's fifth straight victory, a 68-66 upset of visiting Cal State East Bay on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den. The Seawolves improved their CCAA record to 4-2 and 6-4 overall while the Pioneers fell to 4-2 in conference play and 9-3 overall.
The Seawolves were behind for most of the first half, but started a 11-0 run with 7:14 left to take a 28-21 lead and maintained the seven point advantage, 33-26, going into the half. The Seawolves were shaky coming out of the locker room yielding the first nine points to the Pioneers, but were able to settle down and retake the lead with 12:49 remaining on a
Kelsey Robledo jumper to give the Seawolves a 41-40 advantage. The Seawolves kept extending their lead from there and saw it climb as high as 61-50 with 03:37 left. It seemed like the game was in-hand, but the Pioneers had one more run left in them and were able to get the deficit to two points with 10 seconds left before Adams hit the clutch free throws.
Sonoma State shot well from the field finishing at 48% to Cal State East Bay's 37.3%.
Taylor Acosta led all Sonoma State scorers with 16 points, she also collected five rebounds.
Madison Burroughs had 13 points to go with six rebounds and
Hannah Sourek also had 13 points, leading the Seawolves with seven rebounds.
Tori Breshers of Cal State East Bay led all players with 24 points. Stephanie Lopez added 18 points for CSUEB.
Sonoma State returns to action this Friday night in the first trip to Southern California this season when it plays UC San Diego in La Jolla at 5:30 pm. It will begin a string of road games for the Seawolves as they will play eight of their next 10 games away from home.
