BOX SCORE LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The Sonoma State women's basketball team played its first of four consecutive games on the road at UC San Diego on Friday night and saw their five-game winning streak snapped in a 69-59 loss to the Tritons. The Seawolves fell to 4-3 in CCAA play and 6-5 overall. UC San Diego improves to 5-2 in the conference and 7-5 overall.
Sonoma State kept it close for most of the first half and trailed just 16-13 with a little under eight minutes remaining in the opening half, but the Tritons outscored the Seawolves 19-7 the rest of the half and went into the locker room up 35-21. The second half was more indicative of the matching conference records entering the game. The Seawolves outscored the Tritons 38-34, including a 10-0 run to close out the game, but the first half deficit proved too much to overcome for the Seawolves.
The Tritons shot 42% (29-69) from the field compared with 31.3% (20-64) for the Seawolves. The Seawolves edged the Tritons on the boards, 49-47. UC San Diego dished-out 18 assists to Sonoma State's six.
Taylor Acosta led all Sonoma State scorers with 10 points.
Hannah Sourek was two points shy of a double-double with 8 points and 11 rebounds.
Madison Burroughs matched points and rebounds with 6 each and
Carly Gill posted 8 points and a team-high 4 steals.
UC San Diego's Dana Webster led all scorers with 15 points to go along with her 10 rebounds. Farrah Shokoor had 10 points and 12 rebounds on the night.
Sonoma State plays game two of their road trip on Saturday at Cal Poly Pomona. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
