ROHNERT PARK -- Marissa Marable launched a shot from 30 yards out and buried it into the back of the net in the 18th minute and that's all the hosts would need as the 11th-ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team continues its hot streak with a 1-0 victory over UC San Diego on Sunday at the Seawolf Soccer Field.
The Seawolves (10-1-2, 7-0-1 CCAA, 22 points) have extended their lead in the CCAA standings to six points over three teams tied for second place with 16 points -- Chico State, Cal State L.A. and UC San Diego. The Tritons fell to 9-5-1 and 5-4-1 in conference action.
Sonoma dominated possession for most of the afternoon, outshooting UCSD 19-5 in the match, including a 9-0 advantage in the first half.
Ashley Luis made one save in her 10th shutout of the season, extending her scoreless streak to 580 minutes, 52 seconds, the longest of the season, but it didn't come without a couple of scares. In the 58th minute, a shot by the Tritons' Mary Reilly banged off the crossbar, then, a minute later, Reilly fired one at Luis again, but Luis made a nice stop to keep her streak alive.
UC San Diego goalkeeper Kelcie Brodsky stayed busy all afternoon, having to make 12 saves on the 19 shots she faced in the contest.
Sonoma State will play its second-to-last regular season home match on Friday when it hosts Stanislaus State at 12:30 pm.
