Alex Sifuentes Scores Twice, Seawolves Salt Banana Slugs

ROHNERT PARK -- The Sonoma State women's soccer team got two goals from Alex Sifuentes and one from Bella Amyx, Marissa Marable and Katie Mohr in Friday's 5-0 victory over visiting UC Santa Cruz at the Seawolf Soccer Field in Rohnert Park.

The Seawolves, who are ranked at No. 12 in this week's NSCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, secured their sixth straight win and their fourth straight shutout to improve to 8-1-2 this season.  The Banana Slugs, a NCAA Division III institution, fell to 3-6-2.

Amyx got the scoring started for Sonoma in the 11th minute before Marable tacked one on just under three minutes later for the quick 2-0 Seawolf lead.  Sifuentes scored the first of two goals in the 42nd minute to put SSU up 3-0 at half.  She then added one for good measure in the 85th minute, 32 minutes after Mohr put one into the net for the fifth and fourth goals of the afternoon, respectively.

Though the Seawolves outshot the Banana Slugs 26-6 and took 10 of the 12 corner kicks in the match, UCSC didn't go down without a fight, making four attempts in the second half, one of which banged off the crossbar.  Sonoma goalkeeper Ashley Luis made two saves in her eighth shutout of the season, extending her scoreless streak to 400 minutes, 52 seconds, the longest of the season.

Miriam Bloom was credited with two assists on the day, one of which came off her own shot attempt that also hit off the crossbar before Mohr corralled the rebound and sent it home early in the second half.  Sara Van Wagoner, Taylor Enzler and Melissa Lafranchi also had assists in the contest for the Seawolves.

Sonoma State will step back into conference play next Friday (Oct. 16) when it hosts CCAA-newcomer Cal State San Marcos at 3:00 pm.
