ROHNERT PARK -- Tanner Adams went for a team-high 13 points and
Taylor Todd dropped in 11 points as the Sonoma State women's basketball team rolled to a convincing 75-61 victory over visiting Menlo on Saturday afternoon in The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves have won three straight games, improving to 3-1 this season, while the Oaks fell to 2-4.
Sonoma led for nearly 32 minutes of the contest, but Menlo would take a lead midway through the second quarter, going up by as much as three points at 25-22 on a three-pointer by Vanessa D'Amico. The Seawolves finished the half on a 7-2 run to lead by two at halftime at 29-27, capped off by a made bucket by
Kylie Kiech with 34 seconds to play. A three-ball by Adams opened up the second half, but the Oaks chipped away and pulled into a tie at 38-38 before the Seawolves eventually jumped out to a 10-point advantage to end the third quarter.
The SSU lead later pushed out to 18 points, the largest of the night with 1:14 to go before settling for the 14-point win.
Complementing the 13 points by Adams and 11 from Todd,
Jerrica Crosby added 10 points while
Madison Burroughs had eight points. The Seawolves won the turnover battle, forcing 25 miscues while giving up the ball just 11 times, outscoring the Oaks 27-8 off turnovers. Sonoma shot 43.6 percent (24-55) from the floor, including a 60.9 percent clip (14-23) in the second half. Menlo shot an even 40 percent in 24 of 60 attempts in the ball game.
Sonoma State will head north to Fairbanks, Alaska for the Thanksgiving weekend to compete in the North Star Invitational Thursday through Saturday. The Seawolves play host Alaska on Thanksgiving night, beginning at 4:00 pm Pacific Time.
