All-Around Effort Spells Victory For Seawolves Over Clan

ROHNERT PARK -- James Davis went for 22 points, including four 3-pointers and Jimmy Golden chipped in with 11 as the Sonoma State men's basketball team cruised to its fourth straight win, a 76-59 triumph over visiting Simon Fraser on Monday afternoon at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.

The Seawolves improved to 5-1 this season heading into CCAA action which begins Wednesday at home against UC San Diego.  The Clan stumbled for 1-5.

Sonoma led from start to finish taking a 13-point lead into the halftime break, 27-14.  The hosts extended their lead to as much as 20 points after scoring the first seven of the second half to lead 34-14 with under 18 minutes to play.  The Clan slowly but surely fought their way back into the contest, pulling to within 11 points on three occasions, the last being after a 3-pointer by Max Barkeley with 5:52 left in the game, but the Seawolves went on a 13-2 run over the next four minutes, capped off by a 3-pointer by Mason Phillips with 1:35 to go to seal the win.

The Seawolves led in nearly every statistical category on Monday, including rebounds (46-32), assists (10-8), steals (9-8), field goal percentage (45.9-32.0), points in the paint (38-10) and second-chance points (20-5).  Davis had three rebounds, three assists and one steal to go with his team-high 22 points.  Golden brought down six boards with his 11 tallies and Luke Cochran grabbed a game-high eight rebounds with seven points in 27 minutes of action down low.

Simon Fraser was led by the 28 points of Barkeley, who drained six of his seven 3-pointers after halftime.
