ROHNERT PARK -- Ronnie Harris scored a season-high 11 points and
James Slade chipped in with 10, but the Sonoma State men's basketball team couldn't overcome a hot shooting performance by 22nd-ranked UC San Diego in Wednesday's 69-55 loss at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.
The Seawolves saw their four-game win streak come to an end, falling to 5-2 on the year and 0-1 in the CCAA. The sharpshooting Tritons remain perfect on the year at 6-0 (1-0 CCAA).
UC San Diego jumped out to a 14-3 lead just eight minutes into the contest, but Sonoma State later went on a 10-3 run to close out the half and pull to within three points at 29-26 heading into the locker room at the intermission. That's as close as the host Seawolves would get, however, as the Tritons began to heat up, knocking down 60 percent of their shots in the final 20 minutes of play, including 7 of 12 (58.3 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.
In total, UCSD was 26 of 49 shooting (53.1 percent) and 11 of 25 (44.0 percent) from deep. Meanwhile, the Seawolves were held to just 19 of 51 (37.3 percent) from the floor and 3 of 15 (20.0 percent) from downtown.
The Tritons' Aleks Lipovic and Drew Dyer both drained five 3-pointers as the duo finished with 15 and 17 points, respectively. Adam Klie matched Dyer's output with 17 points as well.
Sonoma State next hits the road to take on CCAA-newcomer Cal State San Marcos on Saturday at 7:30 pm in San Marcos.
