Seawolves Clinch Share Of CCAA Title, CCAA's #1 Seed!

SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- The Sonoma State women's volleyball team clinched at least a share of the CCAA title and secured the No. 1 seed in the inaugural CCAA Championship Tournament coming up in two weekends with Sunday's three-set sweep (25-21, 25-12, 25-14) over host Cal State San Marcos in San Marcos.

The 21st-ranked Seawolves have won 17 consecutive matches, improving to 21-3 overall and 17-1 in the CCAA, taking a two-game lead over second-place Cal State San Bernardino (22-4, 15-3 CCAA) with only two games to play, thanks to Stanislaus State's upset of the Coyotes late Saturday night.  Sonoma can clinch the CCAA title outright for the second straight year with at least one victory in its final two matches at home next weekend (Friday against Stanislaus State and Saturday against Chico State, both at 7:00 pm).

The Cougars, who are in their first year of CCAA competition, fell to 6-21 overall and 3-15 in conference action.

Caylie Seitz led all players with 14 kills and a .423 hitting percentage, followed by 10 kills and a .400 clip off the hands of Lexi Reddick, who also recorded 10 digs defensively.  Kaitlyn Connolly anchored the defense once again with a match-high 17 digs, nearly six per set.  Rachel Andrews had another big day at the net, blocking nine attacks, four of the solo variety, which ties her career-high.  Andrews continues to lead the CCAA in conference-only games with an average of 1.44 blocks per set.

As a team, the Seawolves hit .333, eclipsing the .300 mark for the 10th time this season.  Sonoma also held Cal State San Marcos to just .080; it is the sixth time this year SSU has held an opponent under .100, all six of those times have come in the last 10 matches.

Sonoma State, the No. 21 team in the nation and the No. 5 team in the West Region, will return home for their final two matches of the regular season on Friday and Saturday, both at 7:00 pm in The Wolves' Den.
