CCAA Champions! #18 Seawolves Pound Warriors In Three

ROHNERT PARK -- For the second straight season, the Sonoma State women's volleyball team are the champions of the California Collegiate Athletic Association!  The 18th-ranked Seawolves (22-4, 18-1 CCAA) walloped visiting Stanislaus State in three sets Friday night (25-16, 25-20, 25-11) to capture the CCAA title outright thanks to their 18th straight victory and their seventh straight win by way of a three-set sweep.  The Warriors fell to 15-10 and 9-10 in the CCAA.

Not only has Sonoma State clinched the CCAA title and the No. 1 seed in next weekend's CCAA Tournament in La Jolla, but the Seawolves also jumped one spot in the official NCAA Division II West Region rankings to No. 4 this week.  A complete list of this week's NCAA West Region rankings are included at the bottom of this story.

While Madelyn Densberger and Caylie Seitz brought the offense with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, Rachel Andrews again brought the defense.  Entering last weekend, the program record for most blocks in a three-set match was eight, and Andrews has recorded nine blocks in back-to-back three-set matches, including Friday's output against Stanislaus State.  She had seven assisted blocks and two solo to jump her season blocks per set total to 1.36, which is on pace to break SSU's single-season record in that category.

Densberger led the Seawolves in both kills and digs (10), recording her team-best 11th double-double of the season.  She also had five blocks at the net to lead all players with 16.0 points.  Emily Papale added six kills and three aces.

As a team, Sonoma hit .295 with 45 kills in 105 attacks and 14 errors.  SSU also had 11.5 team blocks on the night.

Stanislaus State was led by Jordan Harris who had eight kills and a .538 hitting percentage.  The Warriors hit just .050 on the night.

Sonoma State will conclude the regular season at home on Saturday night hosting Chico State at 7:00 pm.  It will also be Senior Night as the Seawolves will honor their three seniors -- Caylie Seitz, Madelyn Densberger and Kaitlyn Connolly -- in a special pre-game ceremony.
