Cougars Pull Away Late To Beat Seawolves Saturday, 67-60

OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- Ronnie Harris led the way with 17 points and Jimmy Golden added 11, but the Sonoma State men's basketball team suffered a 67-60 loss to CCAA-newcomer Cal State San Marcos on Saturday night at MiraCosta College in Oceanside.

The Seawolves fell to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA while the Cougars improve to 4-3 overall and open their conference schedule with a perfect 2-0 record -- CSUSM stole an overtime victory away from Humboldt State on Thursday night in their CCAA debut.

Two of Harris' 17 points broke a 52-52 tie with 8:29 left in regulation to give Sonoma a 54-52 lead, but CSU San Marcos' Darnell Taylor drained a 3-pointer and followed it with a layup at the 3:50 mark to put the hosts up by five with under four minutes to play.  Harris got the Seawolves to within one point at 57-56 at 2:45, but the Cougars went on a 10-3 run over the next two minutes to pull away for the win in front of their homecoming crowd in Oceanside.

Harris scored his 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting, adding three rebounds and two steals.  Golden's 11 came with five rebounds while Andy Mitchell and Michael Avery chipped in with seven points apiece.  The Seawolves shot 37.7 percent from the floor on 20 for 53.  The Cougars connected on 42.6 percent (23 of 54), hitting 13 three pointers as opposed to five for SSU.

Cal State San Marcos' Andrew Bournes scored 18 of his game-high 21 points from beyond the 3-point arc, followed by 14 from Taylor.

Sonoma State heads north to Humboldt State on Friday for a showdown with the Lumberjacks in Arcata at 7:30 pm before returning home on Dec. 19th to host archrival Chico State.
