Eric Ehlow busted open a 4-4 game in the seventh with an RBI single, spurring Sonoma State to a 6-4 win in game one of a doubleheader against Central Washington on Friday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond. A dominant pitching peformance by
Bobby Raymos,
Devin Alexander, and
DeVon Golden nailed the door shut in the nightcap, giving the home team a 5-0 win and handing the Seawolves a twinbill sweep as they opened up an important non-conference series with the Wildcats. The wins push the Seawolves to 2-1 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 4-2.
GAME 1 - Sonoma State 6, Central Washington 4A three-run fifth inning highlighted by a two-run double from
Spencer Neve gave the Seawolves a 4-2 lead. Unfortunately, it was was quickly erased when the Wildcats tied the game with two runs in the sixth inning. The Ehlow RBI single in the seventh inning was followed by a pinch-hit RBI single by
Cody Morris to give the Seawolves a 6-4 lead, providing some much appreciated insurance.
Rayson Romero had a good game, going 2 for 4 with two runs. Ehlow went 2 for 4 with two RBI's.
Steven Nagy started the game for the Seawolves and went four innings, only surrendering an earned run and walking zero.
Tyler Sanders went 1 1/3 to collect the win (1-0) for Sonoma State.
Kasey Bielec went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Central Washington.
GAME 2 - Sonoma State 5, Central Washington 0Sonoma State starting pitcher
Bobby Raymos didn't allow a hit and struck out nine in four innings of work to pick up the win (1-0) before giving way to
Devin Alexander and
DeVon Golden, who completed the shutout.
Adam Manzer broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly that scored
Steven Nagy and gave the Seawolves a 1-0 lead. Sonoma State put up three runs in the sixth inning to pad their lead at 5-0 and finished off the Wildcats in the seventh inning for the victory.
Steven Moen and
Cody Morris each went 2 for 3 with Moen getting an RBI to lead the Seawolf attack.
These two teams will wrap-up their four game series with another doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m.
