ROHNERT PARK -- Despite going on a 14-5 run to cut their deficit to 40-31, the Sonoma State women's basketball team was unable to make up the rest of the difference and lost to Cal Poly Pomona 84-59 Friday night at The Wolves' Den. With the loss, the Seawolves saw their CCAA record fall to 4-13 and 6-15 overall. The Broncos improved to 14-3 in the conference, remaining in third place in the CCAA standings, and 16-5 overall.
The Seawolves fell behind by as many as 18 points in the first half, but as mentioned above, were able to cut the lead in half heading to the locker room, 40-31. The Seawolves got to within four at 40-36 in the second half when
Molly Donovan hit a jumper at 18:32, but things took a turn for the worst with the Broncos reeling off the next six points to build their lead back to 10 and they didn't look back the rest of the night.
The Broncos shot 55% (33-60) from the field to the Seawolves 36.8% (21-57). The Seawolves and Broncos split the rebounds at 31 each. The Seawolves committed 21 turnovers, which the Broncos turned into 30 points. The Broncos turned the ball over 12 times for 11 Seawolf points. Cal Poly Pomona won the battle in the paint by a 38-20 margin.
Molly Kommer led the Seawolves in scoring with 13 points. She also led the team with seven rebounds.
Molly Donovan had 12 points.
Madison Burroughs had 10 points and five assists.
Ariel Marsh led all scorers with 30 points on the night. Her teammate, Ashley Lovett, had 17 points and eight rebounds.
Sonoma State returns to action Saturday night when they take on UC San Diego at 5:30 P.M. at The Wolves' Den.
