ROHNERT PARK — Molly Donovan had a career-high 15 points, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team was unable to add a win to her great night in a 79-55 loss to UC San Diego Saturday night at the Wolves' Den. With the loss, the Seawolves dropped to 4-14 in CCAA play and 6-16 overall with their 12th straight loss. The Tritons upped their conference record to 12-6 and 14-9 overall.
The Seawolves jumped out to an early 11-5 lead after Donovan hit a jumper with 14:33 left in the opening half. The Tritons were able to get even at 13-13 with 11:39 remaining and went on to outscore the Seawolves 28-13 the rest of the half to lead 41-26 when the halftime buzzer went off. The closest Sonoma State was able to get to the Tritons in the second half was 49-34 after
Molly Kommer drained a three-pointer with 15:25 remaining.
UC San Diego shot 47.4% (27-57) to Sonoma State's 28.3% (17-60) from the field. The Tritons out rebounded the Seawolves, 37-36, but the Seawolves had six more offensive rebounds (16-10). The Tritons had 18 assists to the Seawolves eight.
In addition to her career night in points, Donovan pulled down six rebounds. Kommer had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Taylor Acosta had four assists and five rebounds.
The Tritons were led in scoring by Dana Webster and Farrah Shokoor. Both of them had 13 points.
Sonoma State next hits the court on Friday against Chico State at 5:30 P.M. at The Wolves' Den.
