CHICO, Calif. -- It's been a tale of two days for the Sonoma State baseball team as they came roaring back from a difficult walkoff defeat to #16 Chico State Thursday night to sweep Friday's doubleheader by scores of 7-6 in 13 innings and 13-1 to give the Seawolves a 2-1 series lead heading into the series finale Sunday.
Jourdan Weiks was one of many standout performers for Sonoma State going 7 for 10 in both games of the doubleheader. The victories give the Seawolves their first two CCAA victories (2-5) and make their overall record 5-8. The loss drops the Wildcats record to 4-2 in the conference and 5-4 overall.
Game 1: Sonoma State 7, #16 Chico State 6 (13 innings)It took 13 innings to get the bad taste out of the Seawolves mouths from Thursday's loss, but they held off a three-run Wildcat rally in the bottom of the 13th to earn their first conference victory, 7-6. Tied at three heading into the 13th inning,
Philip Ramos hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly to right field that scored Dustin Macaluso from third base to break the tie. But the fun was just starting for Sonoma State as
Spencer Neve would come up next and knock in
Devin Alexander and
Alex Crosby on a single and an error by the Wildcat right fielder to make it 6-3.
Hayden Cronenbold would cap the four run inning with another single to left field that scored Neve from third.
The Wildcats would score three runs in the bottom of the 13th before Sonoma State recorded an out. But
DeVon Golden would settle down and get the next three batters out, with the last out coming on a strike out to leave the tying Wildcat run stranded on second base and earn his first save of the season.
Weiks paced the Seawolves with three hits in six trips to the plate with an RBI.
Eric Ehlow and
Daniel Caresio each had two hits for the Seawolves.
