SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
The Sonoma State baseball team got the opportunity to play 16th-ranked Chico State in the new Triple-A home of the San Francisco Giants, Raley Field, but weren't able to take a series victory home with them in 7-2 loss in the fourth annual Capital City Clash on Sunday in Sacramento.

The Seawolves and Wildcats split their four-game weekend series at two wins each. With the loss, Sonoma State falls to 2-6 in CCAA play and 5-9 overall. The Wildcats improve to 5-2 in conference play and 6-4 overall.  The Clash series is now 2-2 between the two squads.

After a scoreless top of the first for Sonoma State, Chico State put up three runs in the home half of the first to give them a cushion that would hold up all game. The Seawolves fell behind 6-0 before they would get on the scoreboard with two runs in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Daniel Caresio singled to center that scored Philip Ramos from third and it put the Seawolves into position to put a big dent in the Chico State lead. But it wasn't to be as the Seawolves were only able to score the second run and left their half of the fifth down 6-2. The remainder of the game went by fast as the Seawolves couldn't mount enough offense to make the big comeback they needed.

Spencer Neve and Caresio led the way offensively for Sonoma State, each collecting two hits. The Seawolves bullpen put in a good effort, with Mitch Coombs and Gerald Jamerson going 4 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run on five hits.

Devin Bradley (1-2) took the loss for Sonoma State and AJ Epstein (2-0) got the win for Chico State.

The Wildcats Andrew Carrillo had a big game going 4 for 5 with an RBI. Cody Slader went 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Sonoma State will start a stretch of 21 of 23 games at Seawolf Diamond. The first two home games will be a doubleheader taking place Wednesday starting at 11:00 A.M. against Academy of Art in a non-conference affair.
