RENO, Nev. --
Hillary Fazekas and
Karlee Budge won their No. 3 doubles match by a 6-4 score, but playing NCAA Division I rules against the University of Nevada, the result didn't show up in the final score as the Seawolves fell to the Wolfpack 7-0 on Sunday at the Caughlin Club in Reno. Several singles competitions were close, but the Wolfpack had too much power against the 25th-ranked NCAA Division II team in the country. The loss gives Sonoma an 8-6 record while Nevada improves to 6-7.
While Fazekas and Budge were the only team to win, the No. 2 duo of
Kaitlyn Haithcock and
Jordyn Kearney played well, falling by a 6-4 score. Had that match gone the Seawolves' way, they would have earned the one point that is awarded in doubles, according to NCAA Division I rules.
Leire Martinez took three games in each set at No. 1 singles. Strong performances also came from
Karlee Budge, a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 loser at No. 4 and
Julie Rea, who fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 at No. 6.
The Seawolves will be back in action next Friday when they head to Oakland to face Notre Dame de Namur and Mills College.
