Ryan Luna Throws No-Hitter, Seawolves Sweep Stanislaus

ROHNERT PARK -- After a come-from-behind 7-5 victory in the opener, Ryan Luna tossed the program's first no-hitter in nearly 10 years in a 7-0 triumph in game two as the Sonoma State baseball team earned a pair of wins over visiting Cal State Stanislaus on Friday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond.  The Seawolves improved to 15-12 overall and 9-9 in the CCAA while the Warriors fell to 6-17 (1-12 CCAA).

Luna's no-hitter is the first for the program since former SSU pitcher Aaron Damm held UC San Diego hitless back on Apr. 30, 2005.

Game 1:  Sonoma State 7, Cal State Stanislaus 5

The opener of the four-game series got off to a rocky start when the Warriors took a 5-2 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth, but the Seawolves erased their deficit and took a two-run lead after plating five in the inning. Four Sonoma State players (Alex Crosby, Jourdan Weiks, Cody Morris and Spencer Neve) all had RBI singles. The Morris single tied the game and the Neve single scored two make the score 7-5.  The bullpen would make the lead hold-up and the Seawolves would notch their 14th victory of the season.

Crosby was the offensive star going 4 for 5 with two RBI's in game one. Morris went 2 for 5 with two RBI's and Neve went 1 for 4 with two RBI's. Weiks was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Bobby Raymos (4-1) started the game for Sonoma State and recorded his third straight victory in as many starts. Raymos pitched 5 2/3 innings while giving two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Mitch Coombs and Tyler Sanders took care of the remaining innings only allowing a combined three hits and no runs.

Tyler Murphy took the loss (1-4) for the Warriors going four innings and giving up seven earned runs on seven hits. Marcus Mastrobuoni went 1 for 4 with three RBI's.

Game Two: Sonoma State 7, Cal State Stanislaus 0

Despite not allowing a hit in the seven-inning affair, Luna allowed three base runners in the game. Luna also had a season-high nine strikeouts and improved his record to 3-2.

Not that the Seawolves needed much offense with Luna having the day he did, but the offense put up seven runs again. The run-scoring began in the second inning when Weiks lined out to second base. After the second baseman caught the lineout, he threw to first in an attempt to double up Dustyn Macaluso at first base, but had an errant throw that got past the first baseman and allowed Philip Ramos to score from third and allowed Macaluso and Neve to move up to second and third base, respectively. Crosby was up next and smoked a pitch over the right field wall for a three-run homer to put the Seawolves in front, 4-0. It was Crosby's third home run of the year. The Seawolves added another run in the fourth and two in the sixth to complete their scoring.

Crosby went 2 for 4 with three RBI's to bring his doubleheader total to 6-9 with five RBI's. Macaluso was 1-1 with two RBI's and a walk. Weiks was 2 for 4 with an RBI to make his two game total 4-8 with two RBI's.

Chris Senn (0-2) took the loss for Cal State Stanislaus going 5 1/3 innings allowing seven earned runs on eight hits.

The series concludes Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 P.M. at Cal State Stanislaus.
