Seawolves Blowout Warriors In Finale To Split Doubleheader

TURLOCK, Calif. -- The Sonoma State baseball team scored season-highs in runs and hits with 15 and 21, respectively, on its way to a 15-5 victory in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Cal State Stanislaus.  It ended the day on a good note as the Seawolves and Warriors split a doubleheader when the hosts won game one, 2-1.

Sonoma State finished the four-game series with a CCAA record of 10-10 and 16-13 overall. Cal State Stanislaus now has a 2-13 conference record and is 7-18 overall.

Game 1: Cal State Stanislaus 2, Sonoma State 1

Down by two runs late, Sonoma State had opportunities to tie the game with the Warriors in the seventh and eighth innings, but couldn't come up with the big hit to do so. The Seawolves were unable to get a runner on base in the ninth inning and headed to the intermission between games on the losing end. The lone run for the Seawolves came in the seventh inning when Cameron Merriwether hit into a fielder's choice that scored Devin Alexander from third.

Devin Alexander was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate. Alex Crosby had his third straight multi-hit game, going 2 for 3. Merriwether and Cody Morris had the other two hits for the Seawolves.

DeVon Golden took the loss (1-2) in his first start of the year, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing an earned run on six hits and three strikeouts. Aaron Gillis and Gerald Jamerson handled the rest of the game and only yielded an unearned run on one hit.

Nick Voumard picked up the win (3-1) for the Warriors, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing one earned run on four hits. Marcus Mastrobuoni went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Game 2: Sonoma State 15, Cal State Stanislaus 5

The Seawolves quickly rebounded from a tough game one loss when they put two runs on the scoreboard in the first inning and rolled to a double-digit victory. The highlight of the offensive outburst was a seven-run fifth inning where the Seawolves sent 11 men to the plate and extended their 5-2 lead to 12-2. Crosby, Alexander, Steven Moen, Eric Ehlow, and Merriwether had RBI base hits before Dustyn Macaluso doubled down the right field line to score two to cap the big inning.

Seven Seawolves had multi-hit outputs, including three hits each for Morris, Macaluso, Merriwether, Moen, and Alexander. Crosby and Ehlow both had two hits. It was Crosby's fourth straight multi-hit game and is 10 for 17 over that stretch.   Five players had two RBI's including Macaluso, Merriwether, Moen, Ehlow, and Crosby.

Haydon Turpin picked up his first victory of the year (1-2) after pitching three innings in relief of starter Devin Bradley. Turpin only gave up three hits and struck out four batters. Bradley pitched four innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits.

Chris Sauls started and took the loss (0-2) for the Warriors after going two innings and giving up three earned runs on five hits. Erik Colombini went 1 for 2 with three RBI's.

The Seawolves will resume CCAA play Friday at Seawolf Diamond in the opener of a four-game series against UC San Diego at 2:00 P.M.
