CARSON, Calif. — Sonoma State had a rough day on Saturday as they suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Cal State Dominguez Hills by scores of 6-2 in game one and 2-1 in game two. With the losses, Sonoma State falls to 14-17 in CCAA play and 20-20 overall. Cal State Dominguez Hills improves to 16-15 in conference play and 22-19 overall.
Game 1: CSU Dominiguez Hills 6, Sonoma State 2The Seawolves went up 1-0 in the first inning when
Steven Moen singled to score
Daniel Caresio. The Seawolves would hold that lead until the bottom of the sixth when the Toros took a 2-1 lead. The best inning was yet to come for the Toros as they plated four runs in the seventh and wouldn't look back in the 6-2 win.
Moen and
Adam Manzer each had RBI base hits for the Seawolves. Caresio,
Jourdan Weiks,
Philip Ramos, and
Devin Alexander all collected one hit in the game.
DeVon Golden took the loss (2-4) for the Seawolves, but did strike out eight batters in 6 2/3 innings of work.
Kevin Brown got the win for the Toros pitching a complete game and allowing two earned runs on six hits. Fernando Gallegos went 2 for 4 with two RBI's.
Game 2: CSU Dominguez Hills 2, Sonoma State 1Sonoma State was down 1-0 heading to the top of the fourth when they started a rally. Ramos and Manzer singled to open up the inning and Moen would add a third single that would score Ramos from second and tied the game at 1. Moen was able to get to second after the Moen RBI on a wild pitch, but the Seawolves couldn't get him in and had to settle for one in the fourth.
The Seawolves and Toros would put up zeroes on the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth when the Toros took the lead with one run to put the Seawolves three outs from defeat.
Alex Crosby pinch-hit for
Hayden Cronenbold and promptly delivered a single with one out. The Seawolves were unable to capitalize on the Crosby single and the Toros secured the doubleheader sweep.
Ryan Luna had a good start going six innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits, but took the loss (4-3). Ramos, Alexander, Manzer, Moen, Crosby, and
Dustyn Macaluso all had one hit in the second game.
TyRay Gatewood went the distance for Cal State Dominguez Hills allowing one earned run on six hits. Brady Conlon went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Sonoma State and Cal State Dominguez Hills complete the four-game series with a contest scheduled for 11:00 A.M. on Sunday.
