SAN FRANCISCO—Cody Morris came up in the top of the 11
th inning, looking to break a 5-5 tie with host San Francisco State and delivered a RBI double that scored
Devin Alexander from first to give Sonoma State a 6-5 lead. Alexander would then finish off the Gators on the mound with a perfect 1-2-3 inning. With the win, the Seawolves improve their CCAA record to 17-19 and 23-22 overall. The Gators fall to 16-20 in conference and 17-26 overall.
The game was a tight-affair throughout and it wasn't a surprise that extra innings were needed. The Gators got on the board first with a run in the second inning, but the Seawolves would bounce back in the fourth with three. With
Adam Manzer on third and two outs,
Cameron Merriwether singled to center field to plate Manzer and tie the game at 1.
The two-out rally would continue in the fourth when
Daniel Caresio would walk and a wild pitch would advance Caresio and Merriwether to second and third. The next batter,
Jourdan Weiks, would come up and deliver a double to score both runners and make it 3-1.
The Gators would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth and take the lead in the bottom of the sixth to give them a 4-3 lead. The Gator advantage would be short-lived as Alexander came to the plate in the seventh with Weiks and Crosby on first and second and doubled to score Weiks and moved
Alex Crosby to third. Manzer would come up and hit a fly ball to score Crosby and give the Seawolves another lead. The Seawolves lost their one run lead in the eight when the Gators tied it with a two-out hit.
Neither team could get much going until the Seawolf 11
th inning that ultimately won the game for them.
Crosby led the Seawolves in hits on Sunday, going 3 for 6. Weiks went 2 for 5 with two RBI's.
Spencer Neve and Merriwether both had two hits. Alexander combined his game winning RBI with a win (4-0). He came in relief of
Devin Bradley and went the final 3 1/3 innings and didn't allow a run and only gave up two hits.
Cory Davis got the loss (2-4) in relief for San Francisco State after pitching well in five innings, only allowing an earned run on four hits. Bryce Cherry went 3 for 5 at the plate.
Sonoma State and San Francisco State get together again for a nonconference game Tuesday at Seawolf Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 P.M.
