Magical Season Comes To An End With 6-0 Loss To Dixie State

SAINT GEORGE, Utah -- Olivia Lucchese went 2 for 2 with a triple, but the Sonoma State softball team saw its incredible season come to an end with a 6-0 loss to Dixie State in the 2015 NCAA Division II West Super Regional on Saturday in St. George, Utah.

The Seawolves finish with a 42-21 overall record, earning the second-most wins in the history of the program while advancing further in NCAA postseason play than any other SSU softball team.

The now two-time West Region champion Red Storm will represent the region at the NCAA Division II Softball Championships next weekend in Oklahoma City, Okla.  Dixie State not only improved to 49-7, but secured an undefeated season on its home field, going 25-0 at Karl Brooks Field in 2015, extending its home winning streak to 43 games, dating back to last season.

Red Storm starting pitcher Michelle Duncan also remained undefeated in the pitching circle this season, improving to 29-0 with the win on Saturday; she gave up just three hits and one walk with five strikeouts in the shutout effort.  The Seawolves' Amanda Llerena, the two-time CCAA Pitcher of the Year, ended her junior campaign with a 26-14 mark after giving up the six runs on eight hits and one walk, striking out four.

Saturday's loss marked the end of the road for four Sonoma State seniors -- Holli Brown, Ancia Purdy, Keeley Ray and Amanda Rossetta.  Collectively, they broke multiple game, season and career records, not only for the program, but in the CCAA as well.
