CARSON, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills drained 20 three-pointers, including nine by Ivan Dooley, to cruise to an 88-65 win
on Saturday night over Sonoma State at the Torodome in Carson.
Michael Avery had 11 points and
Luke Cochran ten, but the Seawolves would see their three-game winning streak ended at the hot hands of Toros.
Now 12-7 overall, the Seawolves are 7-6 in CCAA play, tied for sixth and one game behind Humboldt State in the conference standings. Cal State Dominguez Hills improves to 10-11, 4-9 CCAA.
Cal State Dominguez Hills led from wire-to-wire on Saturday, racing to a 5-0 lead and quickly building up a 25-7 lead in the first eight and a half minutes. Sonoma would get within six early in the second half at 40-34, but a 23-6 run effectively put the game away for CSUDH.
The Toros shattered the record record for most three-pointers in a game for a Sonoma State opponent (16 by Cal State San Bernardino in 2004).
Avery had 11 points in 22 minutes off the bench. He was 4-of-5 from the field. Cochran's ten points were accompanied by five rebounds.
Dooley finished the game with 31 points on 9-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Seawolves return home next weekend to host Cal Poly Pomona (Fri.) and Humboldt State (Sat.).
