CARSON, Calif. --
Madison Burroughs and
Kylie Kiech each had 16 points as the Sonoma State women's basketball team turned in a spirited performance against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Seawolves used an 18-3 run over the final six minutes of the third quarter to take the lead, only to see the Toros pull away in the fourth quarter for a 68-60 victory at the Torodome in Carson on Saturday night.
The loss drops the Seawolves to 8-14, 3-10 CCAA on the year. The Toros improve to 15-6 and remain perfect at 13-0 in league play.
Not long after the Toros jetted to an early 11-2 lead, the Seawolves recorded their first impressive offensive run of the night, reeling off ten straight to take a 12-11 lead. They'd stay in command for much of the first half, thanks in part to the play of Burroughs, who led the visitors with ten points in the first 20 minutes.
Cal State Dominguez Hills would pull away late in the second half, leading by eight at the break before building the lead to 14 midway through the third quarter. However, if the Toros thought they'd be able to coast in on cruise control, they'd be mistaken.
Led by solid all-around play on both sides of the court, the Seawolves chipped away at the Toro lead, eventually taking a 47-46 lead on a
Taylor Todd jumper with 16 seconds left in the third quarter.
Sonoma would continue to lead for the first three and a half minutes of the fourth before CSUDH finally put the game away, ending the night on a 20-9 run.
Burroughs got her 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field while Kiech picked off points at the free throw line, where she was 9-of-12.
Taylor Acosta had nine rebounds and
Hannah Sourek posted six points and seven boards.
Monay Lee and Imari Brown each had 17 points for the Toros.
The Seawolves return to action next weekend when they host Cal Poly Pomona (Fri.) and Humboldt State (Sat.).
