#19 Seawolves Erupt For Four Goals In Shutout Of Otters

PETALUMA, Calif. -- An onslaught of rain had been expected on Friday in the North Bay.  While the rain certainly did fall early in the day, it was an afternoon onslaught of goals that left Cal State Monterey Bay reeling as the 19th-ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win over the Otters at East Washington Fields in Petaluma.

It was a season-high for SSU's goal scorers as a quartet of Seawolves all found the net.  The win boosts the Seawolves to 8-2-1 overall and 6-1-0 in CCAA play.

Said head coach Emiria Salzmann Dunn, "I was really happy with the effort we gave today. It was a great team performance and reflective of what we've been working on in training. The team keeps improving and that's our main goal overall."

Sara Van Wagoner tied a school record with three assists in the rout.  The last Sonoma State women's soccer player to have three assists in a game was Brooke Peterson on September 1, 2006.

The Seawolves wasted little time getting on the scoreboard Friday, drawing first blood less than three minutes into the game when Sara Van Wagoner and Taylor Enzler teamed up to feed Miriam Bloom for her second goal of the year.

Sonoma's second goal, just after the 20-minute mark, saw Van Wagoner go to Lindborg, who's cross was headed home emphatically by Kristyn Lerma.

Second half goals from Taylor Enzler in the 62nd minute and Courtney Shoda in the 81st put the finishing touches on a game that saw the Seawolves outshoot the Otters 31-4.

As explosive as the offense was, the defense was just as impressive, holding the Otters without a corner kick and just one shot on goal the entire day.

The Seawolves are back in action on Sunday against San Francisco State.  Due to expected stormy weather, the game has been moved to Santa Rosa JC.  Game time remains set for 2:00 pm.
