ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Sarah Lindborg and
Jenna Viss each scored their first goals of the season to help Sonoma State defeat Humboldt State, 2-1. Sonoma improves 8-1-0 in the CCAA and 10-2-1 overall, pulling into a tie for first place in the CCAA standings. The Lumberjacks fall to 2-6-1 in the CCAA and 4-10-1 overall.
The first official NCAA Division II West Region rankings were also released on Wednesday, and the Seawolves are at No. 4 this week. Should the Seawolves remain in the Top 6 when the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Tournament field is released on Nov. 7, they will qualify for an NCAA berth for the fourth time in five seasons. Other CCAA schools listed in this week's rankings are UC San Diego (No. 2) and Cal State San Bernardino (No. 7).

Sarah Lindborg scored the first goal of the game with an assist by
Sara Van Wagoner. Van Wagoner leads the team in assists this season with six. The Seawolves second and last goal also came in the first half. This time
Jenna Viss scored off of a give and go at the top of the box with the help of
Holle Depina.
In the second half Humboldt found the back of the net. They scored in the 61st minute after Humboldt State player, Alex Jenkins, collided with Sonoma goal keeper,
Allison Hadidian, and was able to get a shot off from ten yards out.
That was where Humboldt's scoring ended. Sonoma controlled the ball for most of the game shooting on goal four times on nine shots compared to Humbolt State's three shots with one on goal.
Sonoma State will head to Chico for its final regular season road game on Friday for a 7:00 pm showdown with Chico State. The next time the 20th-ranked Seawolves play at home is Thursday October 27 at 12:30pm to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills.
