CHICO, Calif. -- Sam Layman scored for the second time in three matches, putting the Sonoma State women's soccer team up 1-0 early in the first half, but Chico State evened the score just four minutes later and the match would end up in a 1-1 tie on Friday night at University Soccer Field in Chico.
The 20th-ranked Seawolves (10-2-2 overall) remain in second place in the CCAA standings with 25 points (8-1-1), just two points behind UC San Diego (13-2, 9-0 CCAA) with two matches left. The Wildcats moved to 7-7-2 (3-7-1 CCAA).

Kristen Spear came up big to make the stop on Shelby Lanksbury attempt to keep zeros up on the scoreboard.
At 18:41, Layman's goal on a pass from
Kristyn Lerma put Sonoma on top by one, but the lead only lasted for four minutes as the Wildcats' Katie Brown netted the equalizer at 22:20.
From then on, both teams would have their chances, but none would be converted as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Chico outshot Sonoma, 19-13, including a 10-5 margin in shots on goal. Spear made a career-high nine saves in goal for the Seawolves.
Sonoma State returns home for its final two regular season games, beginning with a Thursday afternoon tilt with Cal State Dominguez Hills at 12:30 pm. The Seawolves will then wrap up the regular season Saturday against Cal State L.A. at 11:30 am, also at home.
