SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Katie Mohr struck on offense once again, redirecting a
Miriam Bloom corner kick just eight minutes into the contest, and it would hold up to be the game-winner as the 19th-ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team rebounded from Friday's loss to defeat Cal State San Marcos, 1-0, on Sunday at The Cage in San Marcos.
The Seawolves rise to 7-2-1 overall, extending their lead in the CCAA standings with a 5-1-0 mark in conference play. The Cougars stumbled to 3-2-4 (1-2-1 CCAA).
Mohr has now scored one goal in four out of the last six games for Sonoma to lead the team in goals (4) and points (10). It was also Bloom's team-leading fourth assist of the season. It came off of a corner kick at the 8:12 mark of the match.
The Seawolves took advantage of their limited opportunities throughout the day as they were outshot 9-5, but all five of SSU's shots were on goal, whereas only three of the Cougars' nine shots were on frame. Cal State San Marcos also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Kristen Spear got the start in goal for the Seawolves and secured the team's sixth shutout of the year; she made three saves on Sunday. CSUSM's Erica Dory made four stops on the other end of the pitch.
Sonoma State has next weekend off before returning to action on Oct. 14 when it hosts Cal State Monterey Bay at the Seawolf Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm.
