Seawolves Cruise; Golden Named MVP Of Logsdon Classic

ROHNERT PARK -- Jimmy Golden went for a game-high 17 points and corralled eight rebounds while Jordan Fleck and Ronnie Harris came off the bench to score in double-figures as the Sonoma State men's basketball team earned a 64-53 victory over Academy of Art Saturday night to wrap up the 16th Annual Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves have won three straight games, improving to 3-1 this season.  The Urban Knights fell to 1-3.

Golden was named the Ron Logsdon Classic Most Valuable Player after leading Sonoma State with 15.0 points per game, scoring 20 of his 30 points from the free throw line. He was 20 for 23 from the free throw line, an 87.0 percent clip, to go along with a 5 for 15 effort from the floor. The La Habra native also grabbed 10 rebounds in the two games.

Mason Phillips also earned Logsdon Classic All-Tournament Team honors, averaging 13.5 points on 10 of 17 shooting, including 5 of 9 from three-point range. Phillips scored eight points in Saturday's victory after leading the team with 19 points in Friday's win over Saint Martin's.

Academy of Art took its largest lead of the night just 1:33 into the game, a three-point advantage after a three-pointer by Chris Salas, but Sonoma State responded with the first of two 10-0 runs to take a 12-5 lead at the 13:14 mark after a three-ball from Phillips.  The Urban Knights chipped away and got to within three points at the 11:57 mark, but the Seawolves would go on a 22-9 run, including the second 10-0 run to capture their largest lead of the half, a 16-point advantage (36-20) with 2:48 to go in the half.  Four ARTU free throws closed the gap to 12 points at the intermission.

The SSU lead remained in double digits until Academy of Art got to within four points with 5:45 remaining in the game, and again at the 3:20 mark, but a 9-0 run down the stretch fueled what would be the 64-53 win for Sonoma.

The Seawolves were 20 of 38 (52.6 percent) from the floor with six made three-pointers while outrebounding the Knights, 36-21.  SSU held the visitors to just 36.4 percent from the floor on 20 of 55 shooting, including a 1 for 12 effort from three point range.

Fleck dropped in 12 points and Harris chipped in with 10.  Nathan Molony-Benjamin had a game-high 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Also named to the Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic All-Tournament Team were Cal State San Bernardino's Khleem Perkins and Blake McBride, Saint Martin's Tyler Copp and Academy of Art's Sergio Valdeolmillos.

Sonoma State will return to action at the Dixie State/Wingate Thanksgiving Classic in St. George, Utah next weekend, opening the tournament with a Friday date against host Dixie State at 7:30 pm MST (6:30 pm PST).
