Seawolves Continue Winning Streak; Sail by Western Oregon

CHICO, Calif. – The Seawolves continue their undefeated season to 4-0 by topping the Western Oregon University Wolves 74-59 Saturday night at the Carl's Junior Coslet Classic hosted by Chico State. The Wolves' record levels to 2-2. This is the best start for the program since the 2007-08 season.

The Seawolves shot an impressive 92 percent from the free throw line (23-25) and respectfully 40 percent from the field. Kylie Kiech had the team high of 19 points, following her was Madison Burroughs with 16 of her own. Kim Savio aided her team with eight points and team high of eight rebounds.

Sonoma needed under 90 seconds to jump ahead by six midway through the first quarter. Taylor Todd was fouled on a successful jumper and scored the extra point. Following that, Molly Donovan was fouled and made both her shots from the charity stripe. The Seawolves closed the first quarter ahead by six.

In the second quarter, the Seawolves extended their lead to ten with a layup from Mitz and two freebies from Burroughs. They held their lead by at least eight points until Savio scored on a layup and cashed in the extra point from the free throw line, to extend Sonoma's lead to 13. They went into halftime ahead by 12.

The Seawolves opened the second half with a massive 14-4 run over the Wolves, five of those points came from the free throw line.  They were up by between 22-24 points until the last minute when Kiech made good on her free-hrows and Burroughs scored a layup to reach their largest lead of the game, 27 points.

In the fourth quarter, Sonoma scored only eight points compared to Western Oregon's 18. But the damage the Seawolves inflicted in the first three quarters of the game was too much and they won handedly 74-57.

The Seawolves will next face Menlo College at 6pm in Atherton on November 29.
