Seawolves Find First Loss Against Menlo in Overtime

ATHERTON, Calif. - The Seawolves were handed their first loss of the season in overtime Tuesday night against Menlo College 68-67. Their record falls to 4-1 and Menlo improves to 5-2.

Kim Savio scored the game high 24 points, double the highest point total for Menlo. Savio was 9 for 12 in the field and six for six from the charity stripe and also had the team high of 12 rebounds. Jessica Mitz followed with 16 points and Carly Gill had 10 points and was 7-8 at the free throw line, respectively.

Sonma State outscored Menlo in the first quarter 22-9. The second quarter saw Menlo outscore the Seawolves 15-14, and the teams held each other to 11 points in the third. It was in the fourth quarter that Menlo took off and scored 24 points to Sonoma's 12 and sent the game into overtime. To end the game, Menlo outscored the Seawolves 9-8.

In the first half Sonoma shot almost 50 percent from the field and 100 percent from the free throw line. Defensively they out rebounded their opponent, and only totaled six fouls as a team, while gaining seven steals.

In the second half it was Menlo who had the upper hand off the boards and had just barely better shooting percentages in all categories.  In overtime the teams made the same amount of shots, however, one of Menlo's buckets was a three-pointer and gave them the advantage to get the win.

The Seawolves will open conference play for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) at Cal State LA on Saturday December 3 at 5:30pm.
