In the first half, the Seawolves scored 22 of their 39 points from the paint, and only five from the field. And they grabbed almost three times as many rebounds as their opponent. Kiech was 2-for-2 from beyond the arch and 4-for-5 in the field. Burroughs nabbed three steals and scored 14 points and Mitz had six assists.
The first shot both teams took was from beyond the three-point line, but Kiech was the first to score. Literally falling to the field she threw up the ball and it went in. Immediately after, Savio made one from the field, followed by a layup and then Donovan added her own layup and the Seawolves were ahead of the Gators 10-2 before the five-minute mark. San Francisco scored at 3:30 to close the gap by two. But Kiech immediately answered with a layup. Burroughs and Savio would each score a layup before the quarter was over, but the Gators had the last laugh with a three-pointer to close at 16-7.
The Gators came out in the second quarter and scored first, but again Kiech had an answer to the bucket. This time it was a three-pointer, the assist by Mitz. In the Gators' next trip down the floor, Burroughs stole the ball and was fouled on a layup; all this action happened within the first two minutes of the quarter. The second trey in the quarter came from Gill and increased the Seawolves' lead 30-15. Mitz gained her fifth assist on the night by helping Donovan score another layup and Donovan shared the generosity by assisting Kiech to her second three-pointer of the quarter. The Seawolves closed the first half 39-21 punctuated by a fast break layup by Burroughs.
The second half began with quite a few fouls. There were six before two minutes had elapsed in the third quarter and 9 before the four-minute mark. Even with the fouls from both teams, Sonoma had a 43-25 lead by 6:17 on the clock. Barely beating the shot clock,
Taylor Todd scored a three pointer at 5:40 left in the quarter. The Seawolves scored four free-throws, a layup, and a jumper in the last three minutes of the quarter to lead the Gators 54-31 heading into the fourth.
Sonoma scored all 12 of their points in the fourth quarter from the paint. In fact, 16 of their 27 second half points were from the paint. Though San Francisco out-scored the Seawolves 15-12, their deficit was too much to overcome and Sonoma won 66-46.
The Seawolves will face the Otters of CSU Monterey Bay Saturday night December 10, at 5:30pm. The College of Marin will host as the Wolves' Den undergoes construction.
