ROHNERT PARK -- The 26th-ranked Sonoma State women's tennis team cruised to a pair of 9-0 victories over the weekend, blanking Dominican on Saturday in San Rafael before shutting out No. 50 Stanislaus State at home on Sunday to remain undefeated through the first seven matches of the 2016 season, the best start in program history. The Seawolves (7-0) have shutout their opponents five times this season and are outscoring other teams 58-5 heading into Thursday's matchup with Concordia-Irvine.
#26 Sonoma State 9, Dominican 0 -- Box ScoreOn Saturday in San Rafael, the Seawolves got off to a fast start with convincing wins in doubles play to take a 3-0 lead early.
Karlee Budge and
Katherine Long then clinched the match with easy 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively; it was also Long's Sonoma State debut.
Amanda Zuidema piled it on with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4, then
Jensyn Warren (6-2, 6-4) and
Jordyn Kearney (6-4, 6-2) turned in a couple of wins to make it 8-0. Then, at No. 3 singles,
Kaitlyn Haithcock rallied from a 6-1 first-set loss to win 6-2 in the second set, then 10-6 in the tiebreaker to secure the 9-0 victory for SSU.
The Seawolves improved to a perfect 23-0 record over Dominican since 1997. The Penguins fell to 1-4 this season.

Hillary Fazekas got SSU on the board with an 8-2 win at No. 2, Budge and Haithcock followed with an 8-5 win at No. 3, then Warren and Kearney improved to 6-0 in dual matches as doubles partners this season (and 15-2 overall, including tournament play last fall) with an 8-6 triumph at No. 1 doubles.
Fazekas dispatched her opponent at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-0, then Haithcock enjoyed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 to once again clinch the match for SSU. Zuidema carved up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4, Kearney cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2, Budge sent her opponent packing with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5, then to wrap up the 9-0 victory for the Seawolves, Warren outlasted her opponent 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1. Both Kearney and Warren also remain undefeated in singles play this spring at 7-0.
Sonoma State has now won seven straight matches against Stanislaus State (4-4).
