ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- The Sonoma State women's tennis team opened their 2016 season in fine fashion on Friday, downing Holy Names by the score of 8-1 at the Seawolf Tennis Courts in Rohnert Park. Four different Seawolves recorded victories in both singles and doubles as the 26th-ranked team in the country lived up to its ranking.
The Seawolves picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
Jensyn Warren and
Jordyn Kearney were outstanding at the No. 1 spot, charging to an 8-0 win and setting the tone for a Seawolf victory.
In singles play, Warren was nearly as dominant, recording a quick 6-2, 6-0 victory over Chelsea Smithback. Kearney won at No. 2, 6-3, 6-1 and
Amanda Zuidema earned a victory in her first action, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
The bottom of the ladder was successful as well with
Karlee Budge winning at No. 4 and
Hillary Fazekas victorious at the No. 5 spot. The most competitive match of the afternoon came at No. 6, where
Julie Rea recovered from a rocky start to earn a 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 win.
The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow when they travel to UC Santa Cruz.
