SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Less than 24 hours after a home win over Holy Names, the Sonoma State women's tennis team showed no signs of being sluggish as they cruised to a 9-0 sweep of UC Santa Cruz on Saturday afternoon. No UCSC player won more than two games in singles play as the Seawolves turned in a masterful performance on the road.
The win leaves the Seawolves at 2-0 on the young season.
Hillary Fazekas and
Karlee Budge set the tone for Sonoma State with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. The Seawolves also picked up points at No. 1 (8-2) and No. 2 (8-1).
Playing at the No. 1 singles spot for the first time in her career,
Jordyn Kearney looked like a seasoned pro at the top of the ladder as she swept away her opponent by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Freshman
Jensyn Warren and sophomore
Amanda Zuidema were just as dominant, winning by that same 6-0, 6-1 scoreline. Budge,
Julie Rea and
Mariann Bukich were also winners for the Seawolves.
Sonoma State returns to the court on Friday, February 12th when they host the Cyclones of Mills College.
