ST. GEORGE, Utah -- With just two goals to her name in 62 career games entering Saturday's contest, both of which came in 2013, senior
Taylor Enzler doubled her career total with two goals on Saturday, lifting the Sonoma State women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over host Dixie State in St. George, Utah.
Cecilia Sifuentes also found the back of the net for the Seawolves who improved to 2-1-1 this season. The Trailblazers fell to 1-3-0.
Enzler's first score came midway through the 14th-minute as she headed in a corner kick feed from
Miriam Bloom to stake Sonoma to a 1-0 lead. Sifuentes extended the Seawolves' advantage 13 minutes later as she buried a 28-yard free kick from the right wing to give SSU a two-goal cushion.
Sonoma State would up its lead to 3-0 seven minutes into the second half when Enzler converted a penalty kick chance after a hard DSU foul in the penalty area.
Dixie State finally broke through in the 56th-minute when Kamie Hunter lobbed a ball to Darian McCloy, who headed home her second goal in as many matches to draw the Trailblazers to within 3-1. DSU created several other good scoring chances but could not convert.
The Seawolves outshot the Trailblazers, 13-11, though both teams finished with six shots on goal apiece.
Allison Hadidian made four saves in the victory for Sonoma.
Sonoma State returns home on Friday to open CCAA play against Cal Poly Pomona. Kickoff is set for 12:30 pm at the Seawolf Soccer Field.
