Mohr, Amyx Score Late In Sonoma's 2-0 Win Over Broncos

ROHNERT PARK -- After 70 minutes of scoreless play, Katie Mohr found the back of the net after a cross by Taylor Enzler got punched away by the goalkeeper for the first goal of the game, then Bella Amyx added some insurance nine minutes later to secure the Sonoma State women's soccer team's 2-0 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Friday afternoon in the CCAA-opener at the Seawolf Soccer Field.

The Seawolves rise to 3-1-1 this season, and begin their defense of the CCAA title with a 1-0-0 mark in conference play.  The Broncos fell to 1-3-1 (0-1-0 CCAA).

The first half was evenly-matched for the most part, but Sonoma held a narrow 5-3 advantage in shots through the first 45 minutes of the contest.  The Seawolves stepped up the intensity in the second half, outshooting the Broncos 11-5 in the final half, enabling the hosts to find the back of the net twice.

The first score came off the foot of Mohr after Bella Amyx threw the ball into Enzler, who spun and served a cross from the right side of the field to the front of the goal where CPP goalkeeper Ricki Ives punched the ball out.  However, the punched ball landed right at the feet of Mohr, who fired a shot from 10 yards out into the upper right corner of the net for the go-ahead goal.  Watch Mohr's goal here.

Nine minutes later, a free kick from midfield found Mohr again, but outside the penalty box.  Mohr passed it on to Sara Van Wagoner, who poked a shot into the box where Amyx was battling two defenders.  The ball went off Amyx's head and ricocheted off a CPP defender's head before going up and over the outstretched arms of the keeper and into the goal for the 2-0 lead and eventual victory.  Watch Amyx's goal here.

In the end, the Seawolves outshot the Broncos 16-8.  Mohr accounted for six of the 16 shots by the hosts, Van Wagoner took four.  Allison Hadidian recorded her 11th career shutout in goal, making four stops in the victory; the senior improves to 26-8-3 in her career as the goalkeeper of record.  Her counterpart, Ives, made two saves on the other end of the pitch.

Sonoma State returns to action Sunday at home against Cal State San Bernardino.  Kickoff is set for 11:30 am.
