ROHNERT PARK -- Calan Seitz scored 12 kills on a .417 hitting percentage, adding 11 assists, five digs and two blocks, but the Sonoma State volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Dixie State (18-25, 17-25, 21-25) on day three of the 2016 NCAA Division II West Region Volleyball Showcase at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves have lost three straight, falling to 2-4 this season.
Sonoma suits up one more time Saturday evening to take on 12th-ranked Alaska Anchorage in a battle of Seawolves at 7:30 pm to close out the #d2vbshowcase.
Saturday afternoon's 3-0 loss was the first 3-0 loss at home since 2010 to a team not named Cal State San Bernardino; the Seawolves got swept at home by Seattle Pacific on Sept. 4, 2010.
Emily Papale and
Caiti Wiesner came off the bench to contribute six kills each, along with five from
Rachel Andrews.
Courtney Seda and
Megan Bohorquez tied for the team-high in digs with nine, as Seda handed out 19 assists. The Seawolves were held to just .126 on offense while Dixie State hit at a .214 clip. The Trailblazers' Lindsay Garrett led DSU with 12 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Two more games remain at the 2016 NCAA Division II West Region Volleyball Showcase, hosted by Sonoma State, on Saturday. 14th-ranked Western Washington battles 15th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino at 5:00 pm, followed by the Seawolf Showdown at 7:30 pm.
