Seawolves Defeat Coyotes For Second Straight 2-0 Victory

ROHNERT PARK -- Sara Van Wagoner fired a long range missile from the right corner of the penalty box that found the left upper corner of the net in the 13th minute, then Katie Mohr took advantage of a defensive miscue and banged a shot off the left post and into the goal in the 56th minute to account for the Sonoma State women's soccer team's 2-0 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on a hot, sunny Sunday afternoon at the Seawolf Soccer Field in Rohnert Park.

The Seawolves have won four straight matches, rising to 4-1-1 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.  The Coyotes fell to 1-5-0 (0-2 CCAA).

Sonoma dominated all 90 minutes of the contest, outshooting CSUSB 20-5 in the game, including a 12-3 advantage in the first half.  It was the fourth SSU shot on the day that found the net, and it was Van Wagoner, who intercepted a Coyote pass deep in their territory, dribbled down the field and rocketed an attempt on the run which was placed perfected up and over Coyote goalkeeper Emily Whyte for the 1-0 lead at 12:24.

At 55:14, Mohr scored her second goal of the weekend after CSUSB failed to clear a ball in their own box.  Mohr jumped in front of a clear attempt, corraled the ball just beyond the box, ran several steps, then poked the ball from the top of the box on the right side between two defenders and just to the left of Whyte before banging off the inside of the left post and into the net for the 2-0 lead and eventual Seawolf win.

Allison Hadidian got the start in goal for Sonoma State, making two saves in the first half before giving way to Kristen Spear for the final 45 minutes.  Spear made one stop.

Sonoma State will hit the road for its next four matches, starting with a Friday evening battle at Cal State East Bay in Hayward, kickoff is set for 4:30 pm.  The Seawolves won't return home again until Oct. 14 when they host Cal State Monterey Bay.
