HAYWARD, Calif. -- Sara Van Wagoner broke a scoreless tie in the 64th minute off of an assist by
Katie Mohr, then Mohr netted one of her own just under seven minutes later as the 22nd-ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team cruised to its third straight 2-0 victory, and fifth consecutive victory overall, this time at the mercy of host Cal State East Bay on Friday evening in Hayward.
The Seawolves, now 5-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the CCAA, are now unbeaten in their last 16 regular season conference games (14-0-2) dating back to their final regular season contest in 2014. The Pioneers fall to 1-5-2 overall (0-3 CCAA).
Not only was it the third game in a row that Sonoma has come away with a 2-0 win, but it is also the third straight contest in which Mohr and Van Wagoner have either scored and/or assisted on a goal. In Friday's duel with the Pioneers, the duo teamed up to score the first goal of the night at 63:11, it was Van Wagoner's second of the season.
At 70:07,
Miriam Bloom sent a pass downfield to Mohr, who sailed an attempt from well outside the penalty box that went up and over CSUEB goalkeeper Jasmine Corbett and into the net for the 2-0 Sonoma State lead. The advantage would hold up to be a 2-0 score in favor of the Seawolves.
All told, Sonoma outshot Cal State East Bay, 11-2, including a 5-0 margin in shots on goal.
Allison Hadidian tallied her 12th career shutout without having to make any saves; it was also her second solo shutout of the year.
Sonoma State will now head to Turlock for a Sunday showdown with Stanislaus State. Kickoff from Warrior Stadium is set for 2:00 pm.
