#24 Seawolves Stunned By Central Washington Saturday, 1-0

ROHNERT PARK -- Despite holding a favorable advantage in shots, the Sonoma State women's soccer team suffered a stunning 1-0 loss to visiting Central Washington on Saturday afternoon at the Seawolf Soccer Field.  The 24th-ranked Seawolves outshot the Wildcats, 16-5, in the 90-minute affair, but one of the five CWU shots was the only to find nylon, as Sonoma drops to 0-1-1 to start the 2016 season.  Central Washington improved to 2-0-0.

The Seawolves dominated for the majority of the contest, holding a 9-1 shot advantage in the opening half.  It was at the start of the second stanza that the Wildcats put pressure on Sonoma's backline.  A shot by CWU's Keilin Farrand just 2:21 into the half was blocked by a SSU defender before crossing the endline for a CWU corner kick.  The Wildcats' Allie Bohnett took the corner, but tapped it to Farrand before Farrand delivered the ball into the box.  That's where Jessica Haga was left alone, in the center of the box, and she connected on an 8-yard bullet to put Central Washington up 1-0.

The pace picked up considerably late in the second half with Sonoma racing to find the equalizer before regulation was up.  However, the CWU defense held strong to defeat SSU in front of the #NomaNation faithful.

Four Seawolves each took two shots and eight others took one to account for the 16.  CWU netminder Emily Holt made nine saves on the day while SSU's Allison Hadidian made one stop in her first action of 2016.

Sonoma State will hit the road next weekend for two games in St. George, Utah.  The Seawolves will play Colorado Mesa on Thursday at 5:00 pm, then take on host Dixie State on Saturday at 12:30 pm.
