TURLOCK, Calif. - Capitalizing on Warrior turnovers and effectively breaking the press, Sonoma State handedly defeated Stanislaus State 71-55 and improved their record 4-3 in the CCAA and 8-5 overall. Stanislaus State falls 6-9 overall and 4-2 in conference.
Sonoma scored over one third of its points off Stanislaus turnovers and 12 points off of fast breaks.
Jessica Mitz had another big night and scored 17 points.
Madison Burroughs and
Kylie Kiech followed with 15 and 13 points each. The Seawolves shot 49.2 percent on the night and 15-28 from the field in the second half.
Taylor Todd did work on the boards, pulling down nine.
The first half of the game, Sonoma scored 33 and the Warriors 16. The Seawolves capitalized on a 3:1 ratio of points scored off turnovers. Sonoma gained the early lead in the first quarter and had a lead of 17 points going into the half.
In the third quarter, Stanislaus tried to close the gap and outscored Sonoma 21-11, and the teams went into the final quarter with only seven points separating them. However, the Seawolves kept a cushioned lead and prevailed as the winning team. Consistent scoring ensured a Sonoma State victory on the night.
